About this place
Just a short stroll from the bustle of Yanaka Ginza along Sansakizaka slope, Sansakizaka Cafe serves midday fare crafted to highlight the natural character of each ingredient. The star of the lunch hour is the daily teishoku meal, featuring wholesome dishes made with abundant produce sourced from Morotsuka Village in Miyazaki Prefecture. Mains like tender simmered chicken or seasonal vegetables arrive flanked by small sides such as okara and simmered seasonal bites, accompanied by multigrain rice and miso soup. On occasion, the menu also features a hearty kenchinjiru vegetable soup set loaded with produce from Ibaraki Prefecture, offering gentle, restorative nourishment after a long walk.
For a pause after your meal or an afternoon break, the cafe's cakes make a satisfying pairing with a hot or cold drink. The sweets lineup includes fig cake, baked cheesecake, and gateau au chocolat, served alongside coffee or tea. Those after cold refreshments can choose from fresh-squeezed lemon soda, kumquat soda, or homemade plum juice.
Inside, counter and table seating share the room with walls displaying artwork by students from the nearby Tokyo University of the Arts, giving the space an unhurried, cultural downtown feel. When the weather is fine, seats outside let guests linger over their drinks while watching the neighbourhood drift by.
